Ingredients
  

  • 3 tablespoons fresh lemon balm leaves roughly chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried lemon balm optional, for added potency
  • 1/2 lemon sliced (organic if possible)
  • 1/2 inch ginger root sliced or grated
  • 5-6 fresh mint leaves
  • Tiny pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon raw honey or maple syrup optional
  • 2 cups filtered water
  • 1 green tea bag optional, boosts metabolism benefits

Equipment

  • Kettle or saucepan
  • Heat-safe container (French press or jar with lid)
  • Strainer
  • Knife and cutting board

Method
 

  1. Heat water until just before boiling (small bubbles forming, not a rolling boil).
  2. Rinse fresh herbs thoroughly.
  3. Rough chop the lemon balm to release oils.
  4. Slice the lemon and squeeze one slice into the pot; add the rest for infusion.
  5. Prepare the ginger (slice or grate as needed).
  6. Place lemon balm, lemon slices, ginger, mint leaves, and cayenne in a steeping container.
  7. If using a green tea bag, add it now.
  8. Pour the hot water over the ingredients and stir lightly.
  9. Cover and steep for 10-15 minutes.
  10. Strain into a cup or jar.
  11. Add sweetener if desired and enjoy warm or cold.

Notes

Best consumed first thing in the morning and before dinner for optimal benefits.
Can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen as tea cubes for convenience.
